What we do

We work to enable young adults who are 'Not in Employment, Education or Training' (NEETs) to learn skills that could take them into local employment opportunities and to build new business start ups working and learning together. We're lobbying to reinvigorate the area of North Leatherhead as a potential skills source for the new jobs opening up in Surrey.

Our focus

We're now at the midpoint of our NOW, SOON and LATER roadmap from 2021 to 2030. Currently we're focused on three interrelated areas.

Awareness and place-based impact

We're committed to raising awareness and stimulating commitment to action among businesses, schools, civic institutions and the wider community regarding the social and economic challenges facing North Leatherhead. In particular, we're focused on the needs of young adults who are not in employment, education or training and to the growing consensus that addressing these challenges requires coordinated place-based solutions.

Early intervention and lifelong development

The challenges experienced by young adults emerge much earlier in childhood and are shaped by a combination of educational experience, social environment and access to opportunity. Addressing these issues requires much more than narrow skills training. It demands sustained attention to the holistic development of meta-skills and behaviours alongside academic learning and vocational pathways.

Enabling delivery at scale

The core role of TLC2030 is to convene, connect and enable the bringing together of the partners best placed to deliver direct support to young people rather than acting as a delivery organisation itself. Our immediate priorities are converting strategy into measurable real-world outcomes with participant engagement, access to appropriate training facilities and sustainable funding.

"We are proud to have played a small part in supporting the next generation of talent entering the construction industry."

Our activities

We've already created a neighbourhood allotment for therapeutic gardening and horticultural skills development and piloted an entry level construction skills course. While we continue to develop in these areas, we're looking at creating a skills training unit in North Leatherhead to build young people's skills and encouraging young people to participate in sport.

Following the success of the ongoing horticulture initiative, we're developing basic construction skills work and study programmes for people identified as or at risk of becoming NEETs. We ran a pilot Construction Industry Readiness  Workshop at Therfield School in July 2026.

Using our allotment and the expertise of local skills training providers and local businesses, we're looking to introduce young people to the skills needed to work in the many roles locally in gardens, parks and golf courses To this end, we're developing an Entry to Horticulture course.

We're looking into creating a skills training unit on a vacant site in North Leatherhead. This would offer quailified practical skills training to engage young adults in multi-skilled construction and other work as a pathway towards local career opportunities.

Eddie of TLC2030 with representatives of Sported

We're working with Sported and Leatherhead Football Club to encourage local young people to get involved in sport. We believe this can play a major role in making local young people feel better about themselves and their place in their community helping them find gainful employment.

Do you have the enthusiasm to help us help our community? No special skills are needed - just a passion to make North Leatherhead a great place to live and work.
